AGILITY

Agility is a show-jumping competition for dogs and their owners and it was derived from horse show-jumping. This sport started in Great Britain. The course consists of various types of obstacles (hurdles, tunnels, dog walk, see-saw, weaving poles…). The dog traverses the obstacles in the determined order and must never wear a lead or a collar. The dog follows his handler´s commands and signals.

Competitions in agility are organized, in which the team (i.e., dog + handler) wins which negotiates the course in the shortest time and with the lowest number of faults. Agility demonstrations are often organized during dog shows.

Agility is quite a new sport in the Czech Republic, but the number of its fans is steadily growing. The first agility competition in CZ took place in 1991, the Agility Club was founded in 1992 and is now a member of ČMKU through Český kynologický svaz. The club has regional groups which promote agility and in which the people who are interested in this sport gather.

Each year, the Czech Agility Championship and the Czech Junior Agility Championship take place that are accessible to dogs of all breeds, with or without pedigree, even the mixed breed dogs.

The club publishes the club magazine Střípky five times a year which contains information about agility in CZ and abroad, about upcoming competitions etc. Any person without any regard to nationality can become a member of the Agility Club, subject to payment of the membership fee.
